Spot Pond Boating is located in the town of Stoneham. Just a short drive north of Boston, Spot Pond Reservoir is a great location to enjoy many diverse outdoor activities. We are a part of the Middlesex Fells Reservation, a 2,500 acre reservation spanning 5 cites and towns. The reservation offers miles of trails for hiking and biking, with one trail in particular that almost circles the pond. Our boathouse is right next to the Middlesex Fells Information Center, which hosts many activities throughout the summer, and just down the road is the Stone Memorial Zoo.

Almost 300 acres in size, Spot Pond itself serves as a backup reservoir for the greater Boston area. It was opened to limited use in 1999 by the state. This backup reservoir* status means that the water in Spot Pond is extremely clear and clean. No swimming or private boats are permitted in an effort to prevent cross contamination from any other source of water. The pond is stocked with trout every year and has a great population of small and large mouth bass. You can find many places to fish throughout the area. There is an abundance of wildlife nearby. And all dogs must remained leashed at all times. Fishing is allowed, but a license is required.

There are three islands on the pond, all of which boaters are permitted to get out on and explore. The great island had the honor of hosting many bare-knuckle boxing matches during a time when both gambling and drinking were illegal. Today the island is home to a good many nesting pairs of great blue herons, comorants and various other birds. And while you are on the water you might even see a few minks running along the shoreline.

*As a clean water reservoir the entire location is considered a "Carry In - Carry Out" location
** Sailboats require a Boating Pass membership and are not available for hourly rentals
